Day 4: First open water session

 29 June, 2022

So much I heard by then. So much.

"You're going to swim in Bay area? Really? It's full of sharks, did you know that?"
"There are strong currents, just be aware of that."
"3 of my friends died in that race."
"Did you know that sometimes sea lions crawl up in to your face when you swim?"
"The water's going to be really cold. Plus there are sharks. Good luck."

Yet, I was most curious to find the asnwers to my own questions,
"Do I need gloves and foot whatevers for the present water temperature?"
"Can I manage the current, the waves?"
"Are two swimming caps going to be enough or is my head going to be cold?"

Which I soon found out: two caps are enough. The water is pleasant, almost too warm in neoprene and the currents - have had much worse conditions in the stormy Balaton back home.
The only thing that changed is that when I was swimming against the waves, I had a really slow section and swam 500 meters in 15 minutes. Which meant I could probably swim for 1:15 minutes to complete the 2400m swim. Okay by me. Just good to know how to prepare. The longest swim I will have ever done.

Huge relief. Completed. My first swim. In the Bay. I can do it.
