Day 7: Morning trainings, Csabi's arrival, Sunset at Indian Rock

 1 June, 2022

Running and strength with John
I was so happy to be able to make it both to my morning run and strength despite the fact that nightmares kept me awake almost the entire night. I woke and went running at 6am. Didn't feel good but I managed to get the work done and it went well.

Morning run around my place

John's place was really nice. I enjoyed training with him in his garden. I felt very grateful. Having had some conversation about weight classes before my race with Mark, he made a joke at the end of the class, "How about some heavy barbell squats, Nusi?" he asked. Truly pissing me off but on the spot, not being able to react more than "If only you were..." to it. I would have liked to finish that sentence like this or a similar way: "here, I would probably throw a towel at you."
I will not go into the details of that conversation. I felt that at least I was overcoming the fury and frustration caused by it.

Csabi came to the US
Finally, he made it. After having both his ESTA, then his tourist visa rejected. I was happy and rushing to the airport just after I found out that there was a swim cut-off for my race. One hour. They would collect you in boats if you didn't finish. I was really nervous. For about a long hour. Until, I managed to let it go. There was nothing I could do about it. Jon was right, I had to let it go and just do what I can. Mark also confirmed, provoking me "are you going to do your best or get on the next flight and go home?" No fucking way. I was and am going to do my best. No matter what. And cut-off does not translate to DNF or DQ in this race, which means that you can still finish.
Once Csabi got out at 3 pm, I spent the whole BART trip to Oakland telling him about all the plans I made for him in the next 3 days. He must have felt overwhelmed but still listened to me.

Ain't normal: Rockridge, first coffee

That was going to be a busy day. Jon offered to take us to a massage. Like an American dream: all of a sudden we were together in a room, 3 guys came in to give us a massage and we were lying back and talking every now and then. Mostly moaning, honestly. It was a funny scene. Also when the guy giving me a massage suddenly burped in my neck. Did not know how to react, just wanted to burst out laughing.

After that we grabbed dinner in North Berkeley, then ice cream made of cashews and walked up to Indian Rock to catch the sunset. It was amazing.

We were so spoilt, feeling lucky and blessed to have Jon take us to so many places. It was hard to process it all, especially for Csabi, I imagine. With that we called it a day once Jon took us back to our airbnb.
